Best vet clinic software in India 2026: how to choose
How to choose vet clinic software in India: a 12-point checklist, practice-type fit, Indian and global options, costs, demo questions and red flags.

Choosing vet clinic software in India is harder than it should be. Indian tools are often sold by quote, global tools are priced in US dollars, and most comparison pages are written by the vendors themselves. This guide, written by the team that builds Pet Clinic Software in Coimbatore, gives you a vendor-neutral way to decide: work out what your practice actually needs, score each option on the same checklist, and ask the demo questions that reveal the gaps. Where we mention other products, the facts come from their public pages as of October 2026; check with the vendor before you decide.
What should vet clinic software do?
Vet clinic software, also called veterinary practice management software or a vet PMS, is the single system for owner and pet records, appointments, clinical notes, vaccines, pharmacy, billing and reminders. At its best it removes the vaccine-card drawer, the stock notebook, the billing pad and the reception phone list, and replaces them with one record that every person in the clinic can see.
The test of good software is simple: at 11 AM on a busy Saturday, can reception see who is next, can the vet see the pet's history and today's weight, can the pharmacy see what is in stock, and will the owner be reminded about the next vaccine without anyone making a call?
Start with your practice type
Most buying mistakes come from buying for a practice you are not. Match the software to how you work today and how you expect to work in two years.
| Practice type | Must-have | Nice to have |
|---|---|---|
| Single-vet clinic, consultations and vaccines | Multi-pet records, species schedules, WhatsApp reminders, GST bills with UPI | QR vaccination certificates, packages |
| Two- to five-vet pet hospital | All of the above plus whiteboard, treatments grid, full pharmacy, consent forms, drug register | Boarding calendar, lab integration |
| Multi-branch chain | Central owner records, branch stock transfers, consolidated reports, role-based access | Central call centre view |
| Dairy or mixed practice | Herd lists by ear tag, AI and pregnancy dates, offline recording, farmer billing | Route planning, milk-yield trends |
The 12-point checklist
Score each product from 0 to 2 on every point: 0 if it is missing, 1 if partial or by workaround, 2 if it is built in and you saw it working in the demo. A total under 16 out of 24 is a warning sign for a clinic of any size.
- Owner with many pets. One owner profile holding every pet, with species, breed, microchip, weight history and alerts. Reminders grouped per owner.
- Species vaccine and deworming schedules. Dog, cat and, if relevant, cattle schedules that calculate the next due date when you record a dose. Editable per brand.
- WhatsApp reminders through the Business API. Not a manual broadcast from a phone. Approved templates, one-tap confirm, SMS fallback on a TRAI DLT route.
- SOAP notes and prescriptions. Templates per complaint, weight trend, printed and WhatsApp prescriptions.
- Weight-based dosing. mg/kg to ml from today's weight and the strength of the vial in stock, written to the chart.
- Controlled-drug register. Schedule X (ketamine) and Schedule H1 entries made as you dose, append-only, with witness and running balance.
- GST pharmacy. Batch, expiry, HSN code and GST rate per item; near-expiry alerts; stock deducted when dispensed.
- Billing that fits India. GST invoices, UPI QR, partial payments and advances.
- In-patient whiteboard (hospitals). Stages, alert badges, treatments due, and ideally owner updates when a card moves.
- Data hosting and consent. Servers in India, encryption, daily backups, audit trail, and owner consent logged for the DPDP Act 2023.
- Published price and a trial. A rupee price you can see before a sales call, and a trial you can start without a demo.
- Free, fast migration. Import of owners, pets, vaccines and stock from your current system or spreadsheets, done for you.

What does vet clinic software cost in India?
Work out the cost over a year, not a month, and include GST and messages. A worked example for a three-vet hospital on the Pet Clinic Software Hospital plan:
- Subscription: ₹2,999 × 12 = ₹35,988 a year.
- GST at 18%: ₹6,478, recoverable as input credit if your clinic is GST-registered.
- WhatsApp reminders: 900 a month × ₹0.13 × 12 ≈ ₹1,404 a year.
- Setup, migration and training: ₹0.
That is roughly ₹3,100 a month before GST for the whole hospital. When you compare with a per-vet price in US dollars, multiply by the number of vets and by the exchange rate, and ask whether WhatsApp, GST and Indian hosting are included or are extra.
Questions to ask in every demo
- "Show me an owner with three pets and the one reminder they get this week." This reveals whether reminders are grouped.
- "Dose a 3.2 kg kitten with meloxicam from the bottle in your stock list." This reveals whether dosing uses real stock strength.
- "Give ketamine and show me the register line." This reveals whether the register is automatic or a separate form.
- "Sell a strip of tablets and print the GST invoice with HSN code." This reveals whether the pharmacy is really GST-ready.
- "Where exactly is my data stored, and how do I export all of it?" The answer should name a country and a format.
- "What will I pay in month 13?" This reveals introductory discounts and price rises.
Red flags
- No price on the website and no trial without a sales call.
- "WhatsApp integration" that turns out to be a manual broadcast from a phone.
- Data export only on request, or only as PDF.
- Per-vet pricing that makes adding a part-time vet expensive.
- A long contract with a large setup fee before you have used the product.
How to switch without losing a week
Pick a quiet week, not the week before Diwali boarding. Export owners, pets, vaccines and stock from your current system or list your paper registers in a spreadsheet. A good vendor imports and cleans the data for free in a few working days. Run both systems side by side for three to five days, switch on reminders only after the vaccine dates have been checked, then retire the old system.
Where Pet Clinic Software fits
Pet Clinic Software is built for Indian clinics, hospitals and dairy vets that want hospital-grade features at a published rupee price. Its core pet clinic product covers most of the 12 checklist points, with hospitalisation and farm-vet work as separate modules on higher plans; offline farm recording, automatic SMS fallback and Tamil and Hindi message templates are planned, not live. It starts at ₹1,499 a month with a 14-day free trial and no card. It has fewer third-party integrations than global suites such as ezyVet and no AI scribe today, so if those matter most, shortlist accordingly. Questions people ask
What is the best vet clinic software in India?
There is no single best; it depends on the practice. A single-vet clinic needs records, vaccine schedules and WhatsApp reminders, a hospital also needs a whiteboard, pharmacy and drug register, and dairy vets need offline herd records. Score every option on the same 12-point checklist and a live demo with your own data.
How much does vet clinic software cost in India?
From free tiers for very small clinics up to about ₹6,000 a month for Indian tools, while global suites such as ezyVet start near USD 260 a month. Pet Clinic Software costs ₹1,499, ₹2,999 or ₹5,999 a month flat, excluding 18% GST, with WhatsApp messages at about ₹0.13 each.
Is free veterinary software good enough?
For a new single-vet clinic with a few hundred clients, a free tier can work for records and billing. Free plans usually limit clients, skip WhatsApp reminders and pharmacy GST, and have no whiteboard or drug register, so most clinics outgrow them once they admit animals or hold scheduled drugs.
Should vet software store data in India?
It is strongly advisable. Hosting in India keeps clinic and owner data under Indian law, simplifies compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, and usually gives faster screens for staff. Ask every vendor which country the servers are in and how backups are stored.
